Recently, the US state of Pennsylvania made a historic announcement by declaring Diwali a public holiday. This move has prompted mixed reactions from Pakistan, where many Pakistani people have shared their views. Pennsylvania is now the first state in the US to officially recognize the Hindu festival in such a significant way.

The Pakistani reaction was shared on YouTube, on the channel "Sana Amjad." In the video, Sana Amjad highlights how Pennsylvania, a state in the US, announced a public holiday on October 31. She goes on to say, “Last year, we saw Diwali being celebrated in countries like Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and eight other Muslim-majority nations. Let’s find out what the people of Pakistan have to say about Diwali being celebrated again this year."

Pakistani People's Mixed Views on Diwali Celebration

In the video, a Pakistani girl expressed her views, saying, "Mera point of view yeh hai ki humein kisi bhi minority community ki celebrations ko publicly announce nahi karna chahiye. Iss tarah hum doosre ke culture ko promote karte hain." (In my view, we shouldn’t publicly announce holidays for any minority community’s celebrations. This promotes their culture over our own.)

On the other hand, a Pakistani man offered a different perspective, acknowledging India’s global rise. He said, "India ek bahut badi international market ban rahi hai, unke saath collaboration itni zyada hai, ke superpower jaise America ko bhi unhe acknowledge karna padta hai. Diwali holiday bhi uska ek hissa hai." (India is becoming a major international market. Their resources and collaborations are increasing, and it’s no surprise that a superpower like the US acknowledges them.)
