WORLD Thousands Of Twitter Users Shift To Mastodon, What Will Be Elon Musk's Next Move? Harshit Nov 07, 2022 11:08 GMT Elon Musk's Twitter takeover has brought massive criticism all over. Post Musk's takeover there were a series of concerns like paid verification, fake news, and the platform turning to advertising space. In the wake of this mega development, some users have been seeking alternative options. Mastodon has been one of the biggest beneficiaries of all. The Twitter-like social networking platform now has over 680,000 users and without any doubt 230,000 have joined last week. What is Mostodon? Mastodon looks like Twitter - account users write posts (called "toots"), which can be replied to, liked, and re-posted, and they can follow each other. Mastodon claims to be the "largest decentralised social network on the Internet." It was released in 2016 after it was founded by developer Eugen Rochko. The platform has represented a vision of what its founder wanted Twitter to be. Mostodon users get servers that host their data and let them access the same platform. All of these different servers link together and form a collective network, but they are owned by different people and organisations. Going with logo design, unlike the Twitter bird, Mostodon has chosen the ancient elephant-like structure for its representation. Last week the platform stated that over 230,000 users had switched to its platform and various old accounts have been re-activated. The number of people who switched over to #Mastodon in the last week alone has surpassed 230 thousand, along with many returning to old accounts bumping the network to over 655 thousand active users, highest it's ever been! Why? 👉 https://t.co/9Ik30hT3xR— Mastodon (@[email protected]) (@joinmastodon) November 3, 2022 It said that there was in total a 71% increase in monthly active users and as of November 5, the active users tally jumped to 6,83,000.
