Taliban New Law: The Taliban has recently enforced a new law that restricts women’s ability to raise their voices while praying, sparking widespread dismay and frustration. This restriction, which forbids women from praying aloud when in the presence of other women, has led to both protests and online reactions as women and global supporters express their concerns.

New Law Silences Afghan Women’s Voice While Praying

The Taliban’s Ministry of Vice and Virtue, under Mohammad Khalid Hanafi, released an audio order prohibiting women from reciting prayers aloud in each other’s presence. This policy, as reported by the U.S.-based Amu TV, emphasizes the Taliban’s belief that a woman's voice should remain "hidden," even among women.

Women and Supporters Speak Out Against the Restriction

The response to the new law has been swift. Afghan women gathered in protest, using poetry and song to express their frustration. On social media, users have joined in, calling for action. A user named @ZubaidaAKBR’s post on X (formerly Twitter) brought the issue to the public eye, gaining over 1.5 million views and inciting strong reactions.

One comment stated, “There are more than 50 Muslim nations. They need to speak up against this abomination. The Taliban are a disgrace.” Another commented, “Insecure men can only rule by keeping women in shadow,” highlighting the growing dissatisfaction with Taliban policies among Afghan women and their allies.

Taliban Continues Tightening Social Restrictions on Women

In addition to this new law, the Taliban has enforced multiple social restrictions on women. Afghan women now face limitations on travel without a male guardian, mandatory face coverings in public, the closure of beauty salons, and even restrictions on female news presenters, who are now required to cover their faces during broadcasts.
