WORLD Sikh man shot dead by unknown assailants in Peshawar, Pakistan DNP NEWS DESK Jun 25, 2023 11:29 GMT Sikh man shot dead by unknown assailants in Peshawar, Pakistan Pakistan: A Sikh man was murdered by unknown gunmen in Pakistan’s Peshawar city on Saturday. Manmohan Singh received gunshot wounds after being attacked by assailants near Guldara Chowk. He was shifted to a hospital where doctors pronounced him dead upon arrival. This incident happened under the jurisdiction of Yakka Toot police station. This is the second incident of an attack on Sikhs in the Yakka Toot police station area. On Friday, unidentified gunmen fired upon another Sikh. Tarlok Singh sustained gunshots in his legs. He is a local shopkeeper. There are 15,000 Sikhs in Peshawar, which is very close to the Afghanistan border. PTI says that most of the Sikhs in the city live in the Jogan Shah area. They usually run their own businesses or have pharmacy shops. There is an element of fear among the Pakistani Sikh community. On May 15 2022, two Sikh traders were killed brutally in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa region. The HT report says this was the twelfth incident in Peshawar since 2014 where Sikhs were targeted. The Islamic State of Khorasan claimed responsibility for the May 15 attack. Hindus are also under threat Pakistani Hindus constitute 2.1 per cent of the country’s population and number 7.5 million. This community is also under attack from fundamentalists.
