These cities faced the outage due to a fault in transmission lines, media reports suggested. "All the transmission lines supplying electricity to Balochistan have tripped, " as per the Geo News. Power minister Khurrum Dastagir said that power failure was due to a "frequency variation" in southern Pakistan. He assured that it was not a major concern and power would be back soon. In a statement the energy ministry said that at about 07:30 local time (02:30 GMT) the grid "experienced a loss of frequency, that caused a major breakdown".
