The so called guardians of Pakistan the army has refused to share close to USD 10 billion which its various enterprises generate every year. Pakistan Army usurps major part of Budget for new weapons Overall situation in Pakistan is dire and its citizens have to stand in queue to get handouts for wheat flour, pulses and medicines. However, the Generals have usurped major part of budget for new weapons acquisition. Pakistan’s defence budget has seen a phenomenal 12 per cent increase over the military expenditure in 2021-22 and was estimated to be Rs PKR 1.53 trillion. Even as the country was staring at record inflationary crisis and had to cut its spending in development sector, health , education and housing, the Pakistan Army increased its Defense Budget outlay. At present the latest data on Pakistan Army’s procurement is confidential , however the reliable estimate of the previous budgets as well as conservative estimates of combat requirements for the next five years would put the budgetary estimates to be higher than the present year. Pakistan Navy is also on a massive expansion spree off late and has bought ships and accessories worth USD 338 million in 2021 as compared to USD 145 million in previous year. Despite, Pakistani Airforce not committing to any Mega deals for itself, it has increased its budgetary outlay for purchase of drones and sensors from Pakistan. In 2021, Pakistan Air Force, imported sensors worth USD 25 million, a sharp rise of USD 15 million in 2020. Recently Pakistan Air Force has also acquired Drone Jx Gun from China , which indicates its expansion mentality. Furthermore Pakistan has also released National Cyber Security Policy in 2021 which indicates an increasing budgetary outlay for increasing its capability in cyber as well as artificial intelligence domain.
