WORLD Anwar-ul-Haq Kakar elected as Pakistan's caretaker PM Jyoti B Aug 12, 2023 14:50 GMT Shehbaz Sharif, the departing prime minister of Pakistan, and Raja Riaz, the head of the opposition, have decided to name Senator Anwaar Ul Haq Kakar as the country's new interim leader after their meeting on Saturday. This decision is the last effort to reach agreement on the choice of caretaker premier before to the next general election. According to media sources, the decision was made after talks between the two presidents. This decision comes in response to Shehbaz's statement from the previous day, in which he stressed that the Pakistani Constitution gives a minister caretaker prime minister an eight-day window to be appointed following the dissolution of the National Assembly. On the advice of the current Prime Minister, Pakistan's President Arif Alvi dissolved the National Assembly on August 9. The choice of Senator Anwaar Ul Haq Kakar as caretaker prime minister has received the support of both the opposition leader and departing PM Sharif. The President was given the required paperwork, which was signed by both leaders, according to a statement from the Pakistani Prime Minister's office. The swearing-in ceremony for Kakar is reportedly slated for tomorrow. Who is Anwar-ul-Haq Kakar? Anwar-ul-Haq Kakar represents Pakistan's insurgency-stricken Balochistan province in the National Senate of that nation. His term ends in March 2024 after being elected to the parliament in March 2018. Anwar-ul-Haq Kakar served on five committees prior to being named interim prime minister of Pakistan, according to the website of the Senate of Pakistan. These committees included Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development (where he served as chairperson), Business Advisory Committee, Finance and Revenue, Foreign Affairs, and Science and Technology committees. He previously held the positions of ex-spokesman for the Balochistan government as well as legislative leader of the Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) within the Senat. Anwar-ul-Haq Kakar is widely regarded as a politician who is linked to the military establishment in Pakistan. He graduated from both the esteemed National Defence University and the University of Balochistan. He is fluent in English, Urdu, Persian, Pushto, Balochi, and Brahvi and has a bachelor's degree in political science and sociology.
