 Amid border dispute, India open to Chinese investment: Reports

Despite the border longstanding standoff on the Indo-China border, India is open to Chinese investment, said Deputy Minister for Information Technology Rajeev Chandrasekhar. The minister said that India is committed to conducting business lawfully. 

India open for investment from China

India is ready to strike a business deal with China, welcoming strategic business partnerships and investments despite the border dispute. 

"We are open to doing business with any company anywhere as long as they are investing and conducting their business lawfully and are in compliance with the Indian laws," Chandrasekhar told the Financial Times. 

India rejects Chinese automaker’s deal 

India recently rejected Chinese automaker BYD Co’s proposal to set up a $ 1 Billion factory in India in partnership with Hyderabad-based Megha Engineering and Infrastructure Ltd. The proposal was reportedly rejected over security concerns. However, some reports have cited that BYD’s application was still valid. 

Indo-China dispute

The standoff between India and China begin on May 5, 2020, at locations along the Sino-Indian border, leading to violent clashes between Indian and Chinese troops. Additional clashes also erupted at locations including eastern Ladakh along the Line of Actual Control (LAC). 

The clashes began after Chinese forces objected to Indian road construction in the Galwan River Valley. Despite military-level talks, tensions continued to prevail between the two countries. After a quiet front for over a year, the troops clashed for the first time in 2022.
