 Afghanistan: Catastrophic blast outside Kabul's military airport thought to have killed several people

Afghanistan: On Sunday, an explosion was reported outside a military airport in Kabul, Afghanistan. The catastrophic blast is thought to have killed several people.

Official statement regarding the blast

"Today morning an explosion took place outside Kabul military airport, due to which a number of our citizens were martyred and injured," spokesperson Abdul Nafi Takor told Reuters, adding that investigations are ongoing.
On December 12, unidentified gunmen assaulted a Kabul hotel popular with Chinese businessmen. Before Taliban security troops raced to the scene and sealed off the neighbourhood, smoke was spotted pouring from the multi-story Kabul Longan Hotel.

Taliban claims to improve security

The Taliban claim to have improved security since retaking power, but there have been a slew of bombings and attacks, many of which have been claimed by the local chapter of the Islamic State group.
