On this day, the MS Dhoni-led Indian Cricket Team emerged as the winner of the 2011 World Cup, with all the Indian Team's amazing efforts and MS Dhoni's winning six.

Captain to win it ALL

MS Dhoni is the only captain, who has won all the major ICC trophies under his captaincy which includes the 2007 T20 World Cup, 2011 ODI World Cup, and 2013 Champions Trophy. Let's have a look back at India's 2011 World Cup Journey.

The Revenge Match

India and Bangladesh faced each other in the first group stage match, which is considered a revenge match because of Virendra Sehwag who scored a massive 175 runs that day, leading India to a total of 370/4. India won the match by 87 runs.

First Tie 

Here comes the season's first tie match. India started amazingly with master-blaster Sachin Tendulkar's 120 but later England came and fought hard till the end and tied the match. MS Dhoni that day scored 31 runs.

Unrealistic defeat

This was the only time when India faced a defeat that season. After the departure of Tendulkar that day at 267/1, the whole Indian team got bowled out at 296. South Africa won the match by 3 wickets.

Terrific Win 

This match was exciting as India was at the top of the group points table and defeated West Indies by bowling them out at 188 (43). Yuvraj Singh scored 113 and Ravi Rampaul took 5 wickets.

Knocked Out Champions

One will always remember this Quarterfinal match between India and Australia. Australia gave a target of 260 which got chased down in 47.4 overs by Indians. The pleasure of defeating the defending champions was on another level that day.

Sending back Enemies

We all know about the India-Pakistan rivalry in cricket matches. The second semi-final of the tournament was named the greatest of all. India set a mid-target of 260 for old foe Pakistan but their bowling stopped the enemies at 231. MS Dhoni scored 25 runs that day.

'Dhoni finishes off in style' still sounds clear as we think about that dazzling winning six by MS Dhoni. The way he played the Captain Innings is still fresh in everyone's mind. The target 275, Gautam Gambhir's 97, the wait of 28 years, everything became marvelous when India was crowned as the Champions.
