POLITICAL Amit Shah on two-day visit in Assam Jyoti B Jan 25, 2021 06:52 GMT Union Home Minister Amit Shah arrived in Guwahati on Friday (December 25) night, on two-day visit North East Democratic Alliance convenor Himanta Biswa Sarma said. "Reached Guwahati! I wholeheartedly thank the people of Assam for such a warm welcome," Shah said in a tweet today. Vice President of the BJP and the party's Assam in-charge, Baijayant Panda said that he will reach the state on December 23 ahead of Shah's visit. During his visit, Shah is scheduled to hold a meeting with the party leaders and review the election preparations. During his visit to poll-bound Assam, the senior BJP leader will meet the newly elected members of the state party core committee and the ruling coalition of the Bodoland Territorial Council, Sarma, the state finance minister told reporters. Shah will inaugurate a number of projects including distribution of financial aid worth Rs 155 crore to 8000 Namghars - meaning monasteries of Assam under the Assam Darshan programme. Shah will also lay the foundation stone for the development of Batadrava Than in Nagaon. The project aims at transforming the place into a cultural and tourist destination. This will be followed by an event to lay the foundation stone for the northeast region's biggest medical college in Guwahati along with 10 medical colleges in the state. The minister is all set to distribute financial grants to 8,000 traditional Vaishnavite monasteries of the state under the Assam Darshan programme. He will also lay foundation stones for the development of Batadrava Than as a cultural and tourist destination, nine law colleges to be established across Assam, and a new medical college in capital city Guwahati. This is besides the public rallies he is expected to address and the preparatory meetings with party colleagues and workers to flag off the BJP's election campaign for the 2021 state assembly polls.
