Muharram 2024: The Islamic festival of Muharram will be observed across the country on July 17, 2024. This day sees followers of Islam taking part in various processions and events. In preparation, traffic authorities in Lucknow and Delhi have released diversion plans to ensure smooth traffic flow and public safety.

Traffic Changes in Lucknow

In Lucknow, the Traffic Police have announced several diversions to manage the flow of vehicles during Muharram. Here's what you need to know:

Starting from 7 am, traffic in the old city and Mahanagar areas will be diverted until the end of the procession. In Telebagh, the diversions will begin at 11 am and continue until the procession concludes. Essential vehicles like school buses, ambulances, hearses, and fire brigades will be allowed to pass in case of emergencies.

Major Routes Affected

  • Turiya Ganj Chowk to Nakhas: No traffic allowed; alternative route via Girish Chandra Inter College, Saadatganj.
  • Bazaar Khala to Hazratganj: Traffic from Bazaar Khala and Lal Madhav (Hazratganj) will be redirected via Medical Cross (Kamla Nehru) Chauraha.
  • Kukrail Bandha Bridge Crossing to Badshahnagar: No traffic allowed; alternative via Sarvodayan Nagar bridge crossing and PAC headquarters.

Other Key Diversions

  • Medical Cross (Victoria Street) to Nakhas: Vehicles will be diverted via Kashmiri Mohalla.
  • Lal Madhav Tiraha (Hazratganj): Traffic heading towards Aishbagh or Bulaki Adda will be rerouted.

Traffic Disruptions in Delhi

Delhi Traffic Police have also issued advisories for Muharram, effective from July 16, with major disruptions expected on July 17. Here’s what commuters in Delhi should be aware of:

Key Roads with Restrictions

  • Traffic disruptions are anticipated from 12 PM to 9:30 PM on roads including Jama Masjid Road, Chawri Bazaar Road, Ajmeri Gate Road, Sansad Marg, Tughlak Road, Ashoka Road, KG Marg, Rafi Marg, Krishnan Menon Marg, Outer Circle of Connaught Place, and Panchkuian Road.
