Ghaziabad News: Indirapuram Township Handover to Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation Expected by End-July

Ghaziabad News – The long overdue handover of the Indirapuram township to the Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation is expected to take effect by the end of July, according to officials from the Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA). This transition, which has been delayed for almost a decade, may involve a payment of ₹150-200 crore from the GDA to the civic body to facilitate the upgrade of civic infrastructure.

Developed by the GDA in the 1980s, the Indirapuram township spans approximately 1,200 acres. Despite numerous deliberations over the years, the handover has faced significant delays. The municipal corporation has consistently maintained that it requires substantial funds to enhance the civic infrastructure in Indirapuram before assuming control.

In May, a team of 15 officials from both the GDA and the municipal corporation was formed to assess the pending infrastructure work in the township. According to Atul Vats, vice-chairperson of the GDA, all assessments have been completed except for the sewage system.

"A meeting of heads of the GDA and the municipal corporation is scheduled for this month to finalize the decision. The detailed assessment of the sewage system is underway and will be completed soon. Once this is done, the proposal will be presented to the GDA board for approval. We expect a final decision on the handover by the end of July, pending GDA board approval," Vats stated.

This long-awaited transfer aims to improve the management and infrastructure of the Indirapuram township, benefiting its residents with better civic services and facilities.
