Ghaziabad News: Ghaziabad Health Department Launches Drive to Combat Dengue Amid Rising Cases

Ghaziabad News: The health department in Ghaziabad is intensifying efforts to tackle vector-borne diseases, particularly dengue, as the monsoon season approaches. This comes in response to a significant increase in dengue cases, with 1,261 cases reported in 2023, marking the highest tally in the past six years for the district.

Historical Data on Dengue Cases

According to health department records, the number of dengue cases reported in the past years are as follows:

  • 2018: 68 cases
  • 2019: 88 cases
  • 2020: 15 cases
  • 2021: 1,238 cases
  • 2022: 901 cases
  • 2023: 1,261 cases, including four deaths

Comprehensive Drive Against Vector-Borne Diseases

Starting July 1, the health department will initiate a comprehensive drive aimed at combating vector-borne diseases. Dr. Rakesh Gupta, the district surveillance officer, stated that the initiative would involve household visits to identify and eliminate mosquito breeding sites. The department has also conducted a mapping exercise to pinpoint high-risk areas for dengue and other vector-borne diseases.

High-Risk Areas Identified

In 2023, 31 high-risk areas were identified, including localities such as:

  • Shipra Sun City (Indirapuram)
  • Vasundhara
  • Vijay Nagar (2)
  • Mirzapur
  • Makanpur
  • Maharajpur
  • Kanawani

These areas will be the focus of the health department's efforts to curb the spread of dengue and protect residents from the disease.

Preventive Measures and Public Awareness

The health department's drive will also emphasize public awareness and preventive measures. Residents will be educated on how to prevent mosquito breeding in their homes and surroundings, such as ensuring there is no standing water where mosquitoes can breed.

With these proactive measures, the Ghaziabad health department aims to reduce the incidence of dengue and safeguard public health during the monsoon season.
