Punjab News: Bhagwant Mann to meet officers Secretariat Chandigarh

Punjab News: Bhagwant Mann, the chief minister of Punjab, came back from Madhya Pradesh. He will meet with officials at the Punjab Secretariat in Chandigarh today to discuss a variety of state-related matters. In addition to this, the Chief Minister can visit the family members of Mullanpur martyr Colonel Manpreet Singh, who died in Anantnag.

Punjab government will give one crore ex-gratia grant

The family of martyr Manpreet Singh will also receive an ex-gratia payout from the Punjab government for Rs 1 crore. Colonel Manpreet Singh's family must get a cheque for an ex-gratia grant from Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. However, it is now unclear if the Chief Minister would provide the martyr's family with the cheque for this honorarium today or in a few days.

Martyred in encounter with terrorists on 13 September

It is significant that on September 13, New Chandigarh's Colonel Manpreet Singh lost his life fighting terrorists. In his hometown of Bhadoujian, the martyr was cremated with military rites before a final farewell. Kabir, a 7-year-old boy who was dressed in a soldier's uniform, lighted his father's funeral pyre and exclaimed, "Papa Jai Hind," for the final time.

Punjab Governor paid tribute

Punjab Governor Banwari Lal Purohit joined to pay respect to martyr Colonel Manpreet Singh. Many people gathered in front of the martyr's home in Bhadoujian to see his mortal remains. The colonel's final route into the village was down a road that the inhabitants had themselves cleaned and decorated with flowers.
