Punjab Punjab News: After heavy rainfall and floods, schools to reopen tomorrow, DCs to make situation based calls Ambuj Sharma Jul 16, 2023 10:23 GMT Punjab News: The sight of torrential rains throughout the state and the sudden water rise leading to floods in the water of Indus tributaries forced the Punjab's government hand to close all schools on July 10. After a significant drop in the precipitation activity schools in Punjab will be reopened on July 17. The Education Minister of Punjab Harjot Singh Bains has tweeted that all government, private, aided and affiliated schools will reopen on Monday. He has further stated that state departments like Public Works Department (PWD), irrigation department and administrative units like local bodies and panchayats will be directed by Deputy Commissioners to plan and coordinate safety of students going to school. DCs will be taking their own call for a holiday if the situation arises in the region. The administrative body of schools including Principles and teachers are also instructed to ensure that the school buildings are safe for the students at their level. The heads and management will be responsible for safety of the students. Situation in Punjab As per the official data around 19 people have died in rain-related incidents in Punjab. More than 22,000 people have been moved from regions reeling through waterlogging to safety in many flood-hit regions. The plugging works in many breeches on the embankments of the Ghaggar in Sangrur and Patiala districts is being carried out.
