States MCD to demolish 25 buildings used for drug trafficking Shivani Negi Jun 19, 2023 07:43 GMT The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MDC) has identified and sealed 25 buildings as drug trafficking hotspots in the city. These buildings will now face demolition, Raj Niwas officials said in a statement. Of these, 24 are residential properties but found to be used for peddling drugs through property owners and occupants. Strict action against drug trafficking The move has been taken to send a strict message against drug trafficking in the city in line with Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena’s directions to put in place a zero-tolerance policy. “The move aims at sending across a strict message against drug trafficking in the city and deters the drug mafia from indulging in such acts,” LG House officials said. MCD seals 25 properties The MCD has sealed 25 properties being used for Durg peddling in the national capital. The process of demolishing these buildings has begun. “The properties were sealed by the MCD on the recommendation of the Delhi Police; 24 of these are residential and were conveniently being used by drug peddlers without raising a suspicion,” officials said. “Out of the 25 properties, seven have been sealed in the Shahdara (North) civic zone and four each in the Central and Narela zones,” they added Also read: Stretching Boundaries! The LG said the “drug trafficking was not just a petty criminal act, but an international design to weaken the country.” The Delhi Police’s Crime Branch unit in May had launched ‘Operation Kawach’ to uncover drug trafficking rackets in the national capital. The joint operation, consisting of 80 teams and 1000 personnel, was carried out by undercover officers and intelligence surveillance.
