States Manipur government to airlift Meiteis in Mizoram Shivani Negi Jul 23, 2023 12:12 GMT Manipur Violence: The Manipur government is readying plans to rescue Meiteis living in Mizoram. This move comes amidst a call from a Mizo organization asking Meiteis to leave the state. Special ATR flights According to The Sentinel, the Manipur government is arranging for special ATR flights operating on the Imphal – Aizwal and Imphal- Silchar sectors. Various newspapers and TV channels says there are no firm plans regarding the airlifting of the Meiteis from Mizoram and elsewhere. This has raised anxiety among the Meitei community working or studying in Aizawl. ATRs have limited seating capacities and therefore rescuing the thousands of Meiteis in Mizoram would be a problem. Meanwhile, the Mizoram police have drawn up elaborate security arrangements for the safety of Meiteis. ‘Leave Mizoram now’ An organization of several ex-Mizo militants has warned Meteis living in Mizoram to leave the state immediately for their "own safety." Peace Accord MNF Returnees' Association (PAMRA), which represents several ex-Mizo militants said, "The situation in Mizoram has become tense and it is no longer safe for Meitei people from Manipur to live in Mizoram in the wake of barbaric and heinous acts committed by miscreants in Manipur." The PAMRA told the Meteis in Mizoram to leave the state immediately for their own safety.
