States Mamata Banerjee appeals for calm, says no need to panic as adenovirus cases pile up in Bengal Nikhilesh Kunal Mar 03, 2023 07:16 GMT West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has appealed for calm and has reassured people in the state that there was no need to panic and worry, even as cases of adenovirus spiked in the state in the past 24 hours. Mamata Banerjee stated that at present there was no evidence of a viral epidemic in the state and government was prepared to tackle any untoward instances related to the spread of virus. Mamata Banerjee : No need to panic However as per a government report, 12 adenovirus fatalities were reported in the state, which included seven people. In the last month, 5213 ARI cases were reported. Mamata Banerjee stated, "The state government is prepared in all respects to deal with the current situation. There is no need to create panic. It is like the seasonal flu. We have arranged for 5,000 beds ready to meet the demands of time," Further she stated, "The current situation is nothing but a seasonal surge and the number of infections due to adenovirus has already declined. Pediatric wards in Kolkata hospitals are also facing a rush of admissions. However, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has justified the current situation as merely a seasonal surge. On the order hand, in order to control the spread of disease, the state government has issued case management guidelines, and control rooms have also been set up to monitor the situation on a 24*7 basis. Also the availability and full functionality of oxygen and oxygen delivery equipment like MGPS, HFNO, CPAP, pediatric ventilators, etc. have been ensured. State Government has made sure that separate pediatric ARI clinics have been set up in every secondary and tertiary care hospital.
