Vyapam Scam 2.0: Rahul Alleges Fraud In MP Recruitment Exam

Vyapam Scam 2.0: Rahul Gandhi, a leader in the Congress, slammed the Shivraj Singh Chouhan government in Madhya Pradesh on Thursday and called the patwari recruitment exam a "scam."

His response came after unemployed youngsters demonstrated against suspected anomalies in the exam held on April 26 by the Madhya Pradesh Employees Selection Board in a number of state cities, including Bhopal and Indore.

"In Madhya Pradesh, the BJP has only stolen from the youth! Patwari exam scam is Vyapam scam 2.0, which is playing with the future of lakhs of youth of the state. Earlier, BJP stole the elected government of the people, and now it is stealing the rights of the students and employment from the youth," Rahul Gandhi said in a tweet in Hindi.

A decade ago, a recruiting and admissions scam called the Vyapam scandal rocked the state and garnered national attention.

The Madhya Pradesh Bharat Janata Party administration was also accused by Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra of being reluctant to commission an investigation into a patwari recruitment exam.

In a tweet, Vadra said, "News of another scam was coming from BJP-ruled Madhya Pradesh. It is news of bidding in lakhs for getting (government) jobs. Why is the government shying away from ordering a probe into it?"

"Why are the BJP leaders accused of being connected to recruitment scams? There are scams and scams for jobs. Why is the BJP government pushing the future of the lakhs of youth in the dark?" she asked.

At the Indore collectorate and in front of the MPESB's Bhopal office—previously known as Vyavsayik Pariksha Mandal or Vyapam—protests were staged calling for the cancellation of the exam and a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) investigation into alleged irregularities.

Following a report about the exam in a Hindi publication, Congress seized on the subject and dubbed it yet another "Vyapam scam." According to the allegation, seven out of ten chosen candidates showed up at the same testing location, which it alleged was housed inside a BJP legislator institution.

However, Shivraj Singh Chohan's spokesperson and state home minister Narottam Mishra has refuted the accusations. The issue has become more prominent during the MP Assembly's monsoon session.
