Haryana News: Congress Leader Criticizes Government's Plan to Shut 832 Schools in Haryana

Kumari Selja, the National General Secretary of the All India Congress Committee and former State President of the Haryana Congress Committee, expressed strong reservations about the Haryana BJP-JJP coalition government's decision to shut down 832 government schools. Selja emphasized that the government's move would deprive economically disadvantaged children of their right to education.

In an interview with journalists at her residence in Hisar, Selja pointed out that the state government is inclined towards boosting the private sector at the expense of public education. She stated that before deciding to close government schools, the authorities should have investigated why there is a declining enrollment of students in these institutions. According to her, the government schools are lacking fundamental facilities such as classrooms, furniture, and, in some cases, even teachers.

Kumari Selja Raises Concerns Over Education Access for Underprivileged Children

Selja criticized the government for not actively recruiting teachers, emphasizing the need for comprehensive improvements in the education sector. She argued that the government's move to close schools is part of a larger agenda to favor private schools, which could negatively impact students from economically weaker sections. She stressed that the government should focus on addressing the deficiencies in government schools to attract more students rather than resorting to closures.

Highlighting the concerns about the proposed closure, Selja revealed that approximately 7349 students are enrolled in these schools, where the student count is less than 20. She urged the government to consider providing facilities in government schools similar to those in private institutions, as this would discourage parents from sending their children to private schools due to financial constraints.

Selja concluded by stating that the government's responsibility is to enhance the future of children through quality education, not to undermine it. She called on the government to rectify the shortcomings in government schools rather than pursuing policies that adversely affect the educational prospects of children.
