Ghaziabad News: Massive 109 Crore Sports Complex Planned Near Raj Nagar Extension, Details Here

Ghaziabad News: According to sources, the Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation has created a plan for a sizable sports complex close to Raj Nagar Extension (RNE) that would have space for roughly thirty different indoor sports.

Project Plan Submission to State Government

According to officials, the project plan has been forwarded to the state government for approval. The estimated cost of the sports complex is approximately ₹109 crore. The civic organization owns approximately 51,000 square meters of land close to the Karhera rotary in the RNE, which was previously designated for a public representative political training institute. However, the government abandoned that project in March 2023, and the land has remained empty ever since.

Land Availability for Sports Complex

“The land is available with us after the political training institute project was scrapped. We have now planned to develop a sports complex there at an estimated cost of ₹109 crore. It will host various indoor games," said NK Chaudhary, chief engineer, Ghaziabad municipal corporation. "A project report in this regard has been sent to the state government for approval. The funds will be managed through the state Smart City Mission,” she added.

Eligibility for Smart City Mission Funding

Several Uttar Pradesh cities, including Ghaziabad, are eligible to receive funding under the Smart City Mission of ₹250 crore for five years, or ₹50 crore annually.

Selected for this mission were seven municipal corporations in the state, including Meerut, Ayodhya, Gorakhpur, Mathura Vrindavan, Firozabad, and Shahjahanpur, including Ghaziabad.

Public-Private Partnership for Maintenance

The corporation lacks expertise in maintaining sports complexes, so once the project is finished, the officials expect private companies to maintain it through a public-private partnership.

“The sports complex will also have seating capacity for about 300 people and our estimate is that it can be built in about two years once the final approval is obtained. The location is easily accessible from nearby Hindon River Metro station, Hindon elevated road and the Raj Nagar Extension Road,” Chaudhary said.

Variety of Sports Offered

Sports like boxing, billiards, basketball, badminton, gymnastics, judo, kabaddi, shooting, lawn tennis, squash, swimming, weightlifting, taekwondo, wrestling, and wushu, among others, will be available at the complex, according to officials.

According to the officials, the construction of the sporting complex will significantly increase the amount of sporting events in the city. Additionally, they said that plans are underway for an international cricket stadium with 55,000 seats in Morti, close to Raj Nagar Extension.
