States Congress leader faces legal action for controversial remarks against PM Modi, Court orders police to file FIR Sparsh Goel May 16, 2023 08:38 GMT PM Modi: According to attorneys, a court in this city ordered the district police on Monday to file a FIR and submit a report over Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa's remarks about Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a party meeting in Jaipur in March. Randhawa allegedly said on March 13 that "if Adani and Ambani have to be removed, Modi should be finished first," taking aim at PM Modi. The BJP reacted angrily to this statement. BJP MLA accuses Congress leader of hate speech and incitement to violence On March 18, Madan Dilawar, the state general secretary of the BJP and a representative from Ramganj Mandi, lodged a complaint against Randhawa with the Mahaveer Nagar Police Station. The BJP MLA said in his complaint that Randhawa had "hate speech" against Prime Minister Modi and had encouraged his murder. Additionally, he charged that the Congress leader was aiming to incite violence and animosity among citizens while undermining the nation's integrity and togetherness. Dilawar urged that Randhawa be charged with sedition, provocation with the aim to incite disorder, and other crimes under the IPC. Court orders FIR against Congress leader Randhawa Following the police failed to register a FIR, Dilawar requested on May 3 that Kota Police submit a report on the incident by May 10. Dilwar's attorney, Manoj Puri, told reporters following Monday's court hearing that the request was granted. According to the Kota Superintendent of Police's report, which was sent in on Monday, the comment was made in Jaipur, hence the case would not be within the purview of Kota Police, Puri added. When the lawyer pointed out that a FIR can be filed anywhere for criminal offences, the court instructed Kota Police to do so against Randhawa. In the meantime, Paramjeet Singh, the SHO of Mahaveer Nagar Police Station, stated the police had not yet received a copy of the court order.
