 After Lokayukta seizes 6 crore from his home, BJP MLA forced to resign as Chairman of KSDL

Karnataka BJP MLA Madal Virupakshappa is under fire after his son was caught by anti-corruption wing of Karnataka Lokayukta after his son was caught accepting a Rs 40 lakh bribe, and Rs 6 crore in cash was recovered from his home by Lokayukta officials. Following seizure of 6 crore, he had to resign as the Chairman of Karnataka Soaps and Detergents Limited, the manufacturers of Mysore Sandal Soap.

BJP MLA resigns as Chairman of KSDL

On Thursday, Prashanth Madal was caught red handed while seeking a bribe of Rs 40 lakh at the KSDL office by Karnataka Government anti-corruption watch dog and was placed under arrest. Following the incident, raids were conducted at Virupakshappa’s residence and offices.

The Lokayukta seized Rs 1.7 crore from the KSDL office and Rs 6 crore was recovered from Virupakshappa’s house. Now, the anti-corruption watchdog is likely to summon the MLA for intense questioning.

Madal Virupakshappa in his letter of resignation has denied the allegation against him,

“I have no link to the Lokayukta raid. This is a conspiracy against me and my family."

Lokayukta officials have stated that a complaint was filed was registered by a man against Prashanth, accusing him of taking bribes. Thereafter the Lokayukta officials laid a trap and nabbed Prashanth while he was accepting a bribe of Rs 40 lakh.

Opposition Congress launches scathing attack on BJP

After this incident, the Opposition Congress is relentless in condemning the ruling party and has launched a scathing attack on it, labeling it as "Bhrasht Janta Party".

Tweeted Congress leader Rajdeep Surjewala,

"Ugly stench of Corruption of #40PercentSarkara has soiled the beautiful scent of Mysore Sandal Soap also. 1st, the KSDL Chairman-BJP MLA Virupakshappa’s son is caught taking ₹40 Lakh bribe & within 24 hours, ₹6,00,00,000 recovered from house (sic),"

Virupakshappa is MLA from Channagiri in the Devanagre district, is the Chairman of the state owned Karnataka Soaps and Detergents Limited. His son Prashanth Madal, is the Chief Accountant at Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB).
