Actor Darshan , wife booked for keeping rare and exotic birds at his farmhouse

Under the Wildlife Protection Act of 1972, the Karnataka Forest department has filed a complaint against Sandalwood actor Darshan Thoogudeepa, his wife Vijaya Lakshmi, and farmhouse manager Nagaraj for illegally keeping migratory bar-headed geese in his farmhouse in Kempaianahundi village on the Mysuru-T Narasipura Road.

On Friday night, a forest mobile squad searched the farmhouse and captured four bar-headed geese that were being illegally housed in an enclosure and are listed as Schedule 2 under the WPA. After receiving court approval, the foresters will release the birds in Hadinaru Lake near Mysuru.

Permission needed from the department to rear rare and exotic birds

Black swan, ostrich, emu, and other species of birds were discovered during the raid, according to DCF Bhaskar. The manager has been asked to provide documentation allowing him to own the creatures. These birds may be raised, but the owner must have departmental approval.

According to wildlife campaigner Joseph Hoover, a video featuring Darshan being interviewed at his farm was how foresters first learned about bar-headed geese. Darshan informs the interviewer that the bar-headed geese are from Mongolia while filming at the farm.

Further he stated

“The video went viral, compelling the forest squad from Mysuru to raid the farm on Friday evening. Darshan is a true wildlife enthusiast. He loves animals and birds. He has been an ambassador for wildlife conservation.

Recently, he was nominated to the State Board for Wildlife. Obviously, Darshan wasn’t aware of bar-headed geese being listed in Schedule 2 of the WPA,”
