Women's IPL 2023: BCCI invites bids for women's IPL teams from 'reputed entities'

Women's IPL 2023: The Board of Control for Cricket In India (BCCI) has invited applications for "the right to own and operate" teams at the inaugural women's IPL which is set to kick off in March this year. BCCI asked for 'reputed entities to make a non-refundable payment of INR 5 lakh (USD 6000 approx.) by January 21 to procure the "invitation to tender."

Men's IPL teams too interested

So far there is no official confirmation on the matter and there are high possibilities of some groups who own men's IPL franchises can bid for women's teams too. Teams like Rajasthan Royals, Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders are believed to be interested in purchasing women's IPL teams.

BCCI confirmed Women's IPL in 2022

Earlier, in 2022 BCCI confirmed the start of women's IPL after a prolonged wait. Responding to the demand for the tournament, Former BCCI President Ganguly had said, "It is certainly going to happen. I strongly believe that next year i.e. 2023 will be a very good time to start a full-fledged women's IPL which will be as big and grand a success as men's IPL."

BCCI secretary Jay Shah had said, "Multiple existing IPL teams have enquired and expressed serious interest in owning WIPL franchises."
