PBKS vs KKR IPL 2023: Punjab Kings (PBKS) began their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 campaign with a win, defeating Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by 7 runs (D/L method) on Saturday at the Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali.

Rain slowed KKR's chase reducing their target to 154

Batting first, PBKS amassed a massive total of 191 for 5 in 20 overs, owing to skipper Shikhar Dhawan's blazing innings of 85 off 49 balls and Shahrukh Khan's cameo of 32 off 14 balls. Dhawan blasted 10 fours and four sixes, while Shahrukh smacked three sixes and a four in the penultimate over to power PBKS to a commanding total. Rain slowed KKR's chase, reducing their target to 154 in 16 overs. They got off to a bad start, losing three wickets for only 18 runs in the third over. Nitish Rana, who was leading KKR in the absence of the injured Shreyas Iyer, and Venkatesh Iyer attempted to rebuild the innings with a 57-run fourth-wicket stand, but both fell in quick succession.

Rinku Singh and Andre Russell kept KKR's hopes alive

After some tremendous shots, Rinku Singh and Andre Russell kept KKR's hopes alive, but they too were out in the same over. KKR needed 46 runs from the final four overs, but Punjab's bowlers held firm and limited them to 146 for 7, giving PBKS a close victory. PBKS's best bowler was Sam Curran, who took three wickets for 28 runs in four overs. Arshdeep Singh and Rahul Chahar each grabbed two wickets to help him out. Tim Southee and Varun Chakaravarthy were the most economical bowlers for KKR, surrendering only 24 and 25 runs in their four overs, respectively.
