IPL 2023: Virat Kohli, the stand-in captain for the Royal Challengers Bangalore team in their match against Rajasthan Royals, has been fined a whopping Rs. 24 lakh after his team failed to complete their overs within the required amount of time at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Sunday, 23 April. Additionally, the entire Bangalore playing XI, including Impact Player Faf du Plessis, have been fined 25 per cent of their match fees. This is their second time in this season, and if they do this once again, the captain of that match will be banned for the next match.

Complete RCB team to pay the fine

In the official press release, the IPL governing body said, "Royal Challengers Bangalore, who had named Mr. Virat Kohli as their Captain for their game against Rajasthan Royals, has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during their TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) match against Rajasthan Royals at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on April 23, 2023. As it was his team’s second offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Mr. Kohli has been fined Rs. 24 lakh and each member of the Playing XI, including the impact substitute, is fined Rs. 6 lakh or 25 percent of the match fee, whichever is lesser."

On Monday evening, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced their decision via a press release that Royal Challengers Bangalore had breached rules during their match against Rajasthan Royals. Royal Challengers Bangalore has been fined for the second time for failing to bowl within the required time limit. As per the rules, this is considered a minimum over-rate offense, and the entire team has been penalized.

New Rule in IPL 2023

In this year's Indian Premier League, there is a rule regarding completing the overs within the designated time frame. If a team is unable to finish 19 overs within the allotted time, they will have to add an extra fielder inside the circle for the 20th over. This rule came into play during the match between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Rajasthan Royals, where RCB failed to complete their overs within the time limit for the second time in the tournament. As a result, the entire team, including captain Virat Kohli and Impact Player Faf du Plessis, has been fined, with Kohli receiving a hefty fine of Rs 24 lakh.
