IPL 2023: KKR Captain Nitish Rana Fined 24 Lakh for THIS Reason, Know details here

IPL 2023: Following Kolkata Knight Riders' slow over-rate during their match against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Sunday night, captain Nitish Rana has faced a significant penalty. He has been fined a substantial sum of Rs 24 lakhs for the offense. As this is the team's second offense in the current season, each member of the playing XI has also been fined Rs 6 lakhs or 25 percent of their match fee, whichever is lower.

Nitish Rana fined for second time in IPL 2023

The authorities in an official statement stated, “Nitish Rana has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during their TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) match against Chennai Super Kings at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on May 14, 2023. As it was his team’s second offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Mr. Rana has been fined Rs. 24 lakh and each member of the Playing XI, including the impact substitute, is fined Rs. 6 lakh or 25 percent of the match fee, whichever is lesser."

Prior to Kolkata Knight Riders' surprising victory over Chennai Super Kings on their home ground, Nitish Rana engaged in a heated discussion with the on-field umpires. The incident occurred just before the final over of the CSK innings. The Knight Riders were penalized for surpassing the time allotted to complete all 20 overs. According to the updated regulations, if a team fails to maintain the required over-rate, they are restricted to having a maximum of four fielders outside the inner circle, instead of the usual five.

Who won the KKR vs CSK IPL 2023 match?

Coming to the match, Chennai Super Kings elected to bat first but could only manage to score 144 runs for the loss of six wickets at the Chepauk. Shivam Dube played a notable innings, remaining unbeaten with 48 runs off 34 balls. KKR's spinners, Sunil Narine (2/15) and Varun Chakravarthy (2/36), each claimed two wickets. In pursuit of 145 runs for victory, Kolkata Knight Riders encountered some early challenges, but eventually achieved the target in 18.3 overs. Rinku Singh contributed 54 runs, while captain Nitish Rana scored an impressive 57 runs.
