IND vs NZ: Due to their slowdown overrate against New Zealand in the opening ODI on Wednesday at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad, the Indian team has been penalised 60% of the match fees.
Fine imposed on India
The fine was adjourned by Javagal Srinath of the ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees after it was determined that India fell three overs short of the objective after accounting for time allowances. Players are penalised 20% of their match fee for each over their team fails to bowl in the permitted time, in line with Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which addresses minimum over-rate offences.
There was no need for a formal hearing because India captain Rohit Sharma admitted the offence and the accompanying recommended punishment. The accusation was made by the on-field umpires Anil Chaudhary and Nitin Menon, the third umpire K N Ananthapadmanabhan, and the fourth umpire Jayaraman Madanagopal.
Men in Blue won the first IND vs NZ ODI
In the first ODI of the series, India defeated New Zealand in a hard-fought encounter by a score of 12 runs. With his 208 off 149 balls to lead India to 349/8, opener Shubman Gill became the youngest player in men's ODI history to achieve a double century.
New Zealand's response saw them at 131/6 and out of options. All-rounder Michael Bracewell scored 140 runs in 78 deliveries, including 12 fours and 10 sixes. He and Mitchell Santner added 162 runs in just 102 balls for the seventh wicket.
