SPORTS ICC fines Tamim Iqbal for using abusive words against match officials Harshit May 29, 2021 18:15 GMT The International Cricket Council (ICC) has fined Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal 15 percent of his match fees for using foul language against match officials during the third ODI played against Sri Lanka in Dhaka. Bangladesh suffered a 97-run defeat at the hands of Sri Lanka in this match. But the host Bangladesh managed to win the series 2–1. "I was disappointed as I am hundred percent sure it did not touch my bat," Tamim had said after the match. "When the ball passed me, the bat touched the ground and if the on-field umpire did not give me out , it would have been a different thing. " The ICC has also added a demerit point in Tamim's discipline record. When a player gets four or more demerit points within 24 months, he has to face suspension. The incident happened in the 10th over of Bangladesh's innings on Friday, when Tamim used abusive language after an unsuccessful review of his catch behind the wicket. The cricket top body further said that Tamim has apologized for his mistake and hence no formal action is needed against him now. The charges were leveled by on-field umpires Sharafuddaula Ibne Shahid and Tanveer Ahmed, television umpire Ghazi Sohail and fourth official Masoodur Rahman. In the third ODI, Kusal Perera scored a century for the Sri Lankan team. Thanks to this century, Sri Lanka scored 286 runs on the board for the loss of 6 wickets in 50 overs.
