FIFA World Cup 2022: Saudi Arabia celebrates national holiday after shocking Messi-led Argentina

Saudi Arabia has declared a national holiday after its football team managed to pull out a shocker in the ongoing FIFA World Cup 2022. Saudi Arabia defeated Lionel Messi's Argentina 2-1 in their opening game of the tournament.

Argentina are probably one of the teams playing in Qatar and they are presently captained by arguably the greatest player of all time - Lionel Messi.

A 36-game winning streak of Argentina was snapped by the Islamic national team. Saudi Arabia ranked at no. 51, made history by defeating the world no. 3 team.

On his fifth and final quest for the only major trophy to elude him, Messi, 35, scored a 10th-minute penalty in a dominant first-half display by Argentina on Tuesday during which he and Lautaro Martinez also had three goals disallowed for offside.

Saudi Prince declares holiday

“King Salman orders that tomorrow, Wednesday, will be a holiday for all employees in public and private sectors as well as for students in all phases of education, in celebration of #SaudiArabia's stunning victory against Argentina," Saudi Gazette, an English language daily in Saudi Arabia, said in a tweet.

All employees in the state and private sector will get the day off, as will male and female students in all educational stages.
