FIFA World Cup 2022: During the quarterfinal encounter between the Netherlands and Argentina of the FIFA World Cup, Leandro Parades fouled Nathaniel Ake, and the situation erupted when Parades kicked the ball directly at the Dutch dugout. Paredes tackled Nathan Ake in the 88th minute with Argentina winning 2-1 at the time, and the referee called a foul on him. The moment Paredes kicked the ball toward the Dutch bench, though, the real drama began.

Teams clash in middle of the match

In a flash, the Netherlands players sprung to action and charged Paredes on the field. While the rest of the team attempted to vent their frustration, Dutch defender Virgil Van Dijk ran in and struck Pardes. Despite all odds, the referee was able to separate the players. Play proceeded despite the yellow cards for Paredes and Berghuis.

In the end, Lionel Messi-led Argentina prevailed after their goalkeeper Emi Martinez saved penalties from Virgil van Dijk and Steven Berghuis before Lautaro Martinez scored the winning spot kick to secure them a 4-3 shootout victory over the Netherlands on Friday after their World Cup quarterfinal finished 2-2 after 120 minutes.

In the 73rd minute, after Denzel Dumfries fouled Marcos Acuna, Argentina's captain Lionel Messi calmly converted a penalty. Messi had brilliantly set up Nahuel Molina for his team's first-half goal by weaving a beautiful pass through the Dutch defence.

In a tense half-hour of overtime, with the scores tied, Argentina desperately tried to score a goal but Enzo Fernandez hit the post in the last seconds while Martinez and German Pezzella also had shots blocked or parried away.

In order to advance to the championship match, Argentina must first defeat Croatia, who previously defeated Brazil on penalties.
