Cricket Viral Video: During a Marsh Cup match on September 27, New South Wales batsman Daniel Hughes received a fortunate break when a white towel slipped from Riley Meredith's pants. The incident left everyone amused.

Amusing incident during Marsh Cup

In the fourth match of the 2023/24 Marsh Cup season, Tasmania batted first and struggled early. Opener Caleb Jewell was dismissed for a duck on the third ball. By the 20th over, Tasmania had lost half their wickets with a score of 57. New South Wales comfortably chased the modest target, with Edwards leading with an explosive 92 off 63 balls as the opening batsman, and his partner Hughes also contributing with 58 runs. However, an unusual incident occurred in the first over of the New South Wales innings when Hughes began to move away just as Riley Meredith was about to deliver the ball.

As Riley Meredith approached his delivery stride, a mishap occurred when he dropped a towel from his trousers. Daniel Hughes, seemingly distracted, instinctively backed away but still attempted a shot, resulting in an edge. The wicketkeeper took the catch, and Hughes was given out, leading to jubilation among the Tasmanian players. However, Hughes disputed the decision, citing the distraction caused by the incident and raised the matter with the umpires.

Subsequently, the on-field umpires convened and, following a brief deliberation, overturned their initial decision, signalling a dead ball. This decision was in accordance with Law 20.4.2.6, which empowers umpires to declare a dead ball under such circumstances. It reads, "the striker is distracted by any noise or movement or in any other way while preparing to receive, or receiving a delivery."

Following the reversal of the earlier decision, Hughes continued his innings and went on to score 58 runs from 71 balls. New South Wales successfully chased down the target with six wickets in hand and more than 15 overs to spare.
