BCCI to inform ICC about T20 World Cup development in UAE

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to inform the International Cricket Council that they won't be able to host the upcoming T20 World Cup in India and leaving the United Arab Emirates (UAE), which was kept on standby for the tournament.

The T20 World Cup is scheduled between October 17 to November 14, and few of the initial qualifying games will be held in Oman.

"We had a meeting of office-bearers today (on Monday). We decided that it will be impossible to host the T20 World Cup amidst the Covid-19 pandemic. There are talks of a third wave. So, it would be highly risky. We will soon inform the ICC about our decision," said Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) vice-president Rajiv Shukla as quoted by IANS.

The ICC said it will make a statement once it hears from the BCCI.

"We will make a statement soon, once we hear from the BCCI," said an ICC official.

BCCI also failed to guarantee tax exemption to ICC.

A source aware of the developments told IANS, "The BCCI had filed an application for tax exemption but there was no intimation from the [finance] ministry on it."

The shifting of the T20 World Cup to UAE comes after the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 was suspended on May 4.
