Asian Games 2023: Indian Speed Skaters, Both Men & Women, Clinch Bronze in Thrilling 3000m Relay; PM Modi Reacts

Asian Games 2023: In Hangzhou, the Indian skating team achieved its inaugural medal. The women's speed skating 3000m relay team, comprising Heeral Sadhu, Kartika Jagadeeswaran, and Aarathy Kasturi Raj, clinched a bronze medal in the final event held on Monday. While, the men's team too clinched the bronze medal. PM Narendra Modi also took to X, and conveyed his appreciation for both the teams.

India clinches bronze in skating

India clinched a bronze medal with a time of 4:34.861 minutes, while Chinese Taipei claimed the gold medal with a time of 4:19.447 minutes, and South Korea took home the silver with a time of 4:21.146 minutes. India's success continued with the men's speed skating 3000 m relay team, which also secured the third position in the final.

The team was composed of Aryan Pal, Anand Kumar, Siddhant, and Vikram, and they clocked a time of 4:10.128 minutes. Chinese Taipei emerged victorious with a time of 4:05.692 minutes for the gold, and South Korea narrowly secured the silver with a time of 4:05.702 minutes. As a result, India has now earned a total of two medals in the sport of skating.

PM Modi reacts

India's current medal count stands at 55, with 13 gold, 21 silver, and 21 bronze medals. The roller skating competitions began on September 30 and are scheduled to conclude on October 7.

One of the highly anticipated events remaining in the Asian Games 2023 is cricket. Teams of significant stature such as India, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, and Pakistan have earned automatic berths in the quarter-finals, thanks to their higher seeding.
