Asia Cup 2023 To Be Played In Hybrid Model, Pakistan and Sri Lanka To Host The Tournament Jointly

Asia Cup 2023: The biggest cricketing tournament for Asian countries is all set to return by the end of August. Asia Cup 2023 will return on August 31, 2023, with Pakistan and Sri Lanka both hosting the tournament.

The Asia Cup will return in the 50-over format after a year. It was decided in 2014 that Asia Cup would be played on a rotation basis between ODI and T20i. There will be a total of 13 ODI matches in Asia Cup 2023.

Asian Cricket Council announced earlier today that a total of 6 teams, including India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and Nepal, will participate in Asia Cup. There will be 13 ODI matches between these 6 teams, which will take 17 days.

Proposed Hybrid Model

ACC President Jay Shah approved the Hybrid Model. The proposed Hybrid Model will involve four matches in Pakistan and 9 in Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka won the Asia Cup last time around when they beat Pakistan by 27 runs in the final. The hosts would also like to retain that dominance over this different format.

Pakistan will also host four matches and will do everything to reap the benefits of the home advantage. Matches of India and KnockOut stage matches will be played in Sri Lanka while the league matches will be played in Pakistan.

What will be the Asia Cup format?

The teams will be divided into two groups of 3 teams each. The top two teams will qualify for Super Four, and the winners of the Super Four will play against each other in the finals.

The final will be played on September 17, 2023. The ACC will release more updates on the venues and fixtures soon.
