Halloween: The sinister festival of the year is here. Every year Halloween is celebrated on October 31 with a whole lot of grandeur and pomp all across the world. This festival also brings a lot of activities and rituals with it. Pumpkins are carved into jack-o-lanterns; children visit the houses of their neighbors for trick or treat. ‘Trick or treating’ is the ritual where children dress up as their favorite fictional characters from books and movies and visit other houses for having candies or performing a harmless and decent mischief. In the time of this festival, people let their freak flag fly high. They dress up specially as ghosts, witches, demons and fairies.

History

Halloween is celebrated by dressing up as fictional characters, performing cosplay and stuffing oneself with sweet candies and pumpkin pies. Halloween dates back to the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain which was regarded as a gleaning festival. Some theories also suggest that Samhain festival has its roots in paganism. It was believed that on the Day of Halloween, the lines between the world would get blurred and the spirits would visit their loved ones.

Some people prefer to decorate their homes and cook delicious dishes to welcome the spirits of their ancestors for this festival. They also try to ward away evil spirits by lightning bonfire and dressing up as the demons.

Significance of Halloween

Children dress up and visit neighbor’s homes for trick or treating. People also decorate their homes with spooky as the theme, play dress-up with references from pop culture and attend Halloween-themed parties.
