Are Girls Smarter Than Boys? New Study Reveals Interesting Findings - Check

Researchers at the University of Tübingen in Germany looked at the long-running debate of whether boys or girls have a competitive edge in terms of IQ. Their results offer fresh perspectives on this contentious issue and are based on cutting-edge neuroimaging techniques.

Exploring Brain Development in Newborns and Fetuses

The researchers evaluated the brain sensitivity to sound in foetuses and neonates using magnetoencephalography (MEG). This apparatus tracks the magnetic fields produced by the brain's electrical activity. Twenty infants, ranging in age from 13 to 59 days and forty-three foetuses in the third trimester of pregnancy were involved in the study. To get extra information, researchers also examined discussions between pregnant women and MEG sensors, which included noises like a balloon popping.

Gender Differences in Brain Signal Response

The study's main finding involves the pace of brain growth. Data analysis found that females' brains responded to auditory stimuli with a weaker signal than boys brains did. This implies that the neurological system may grow more quickly in boys during this early time.

Impact on Decision-Making and Performance

Researchers also examined the effects of variations in the complexity of brain development on performance in general and decision-making capacity in particular. It was shown that those with higher levels of brain development performed activities more quickly and were better at making decisions.
