Weather Update: Over 9 lakh affected in Odisha flood, 38 dead in hill state; rainstorm alert in MP

Weather Update: Several states across the country continued to reel under the impact of intense monsoon rains, with the situation particularly grim in flood-ravaged Odisha, where over 9 lakh people have been affected.

On Monday, many parts of Madhya Pradesh received heavy rain for the third day in a row. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert for Tuesday in Ujjain and Rajgarh, and schools in Bhopal, Indore, Ujjain, Damoh, and Agar Malwa were ordered closed.

Meanwhile, rescue and relief efforts were underway in the hill states of Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh, where cloudburst-caused flash floods and landslides killed 38 people over the weekend.

Here's a rundown of recent floods, landslides, and other weather-related incidents across the country.

Condition in Odisha

Floods in Odisha have affected 9.6 lakh people and displaced thousands, with rain disrupting electricity and water supply and damaging road infrastructure. So far, the state has evacuated 120,000 people from the affected areas.

However, the flood situation remained the worst in the northern districts, as the swollen Subarnekha river inundated low-lying areas, stranding people in over 134 villages.

Uttarakhand

On Monday, another body was recovered from Silla village in Tehri district, taking the death toll from Saturday's cloudbursts in Uttarakhand to six.

On Sunday, one body was recovered from Saura Saroli in Dehradun, and four deaths were confirmed on the day of the disaster. Thirteen people are still missing in the districts of Tehri and Dehradun.

Himachal Pradesh

Since Friday night, the death toll in flash floods and landslides triggered by rains in Himachal Pradesh has risen to 32, while six people are still missing. Six people who went missing are still untraceable. 12 people were injured in the calamity. Mandi district remains the worst affected, followed by Kangra and Chamba.
