"We will check his stars," Top Court on an Astrologer in a Case Involving Accident Compensation, Netizens Divided

Supreme Court: On Monday, the Supreme Court stated that it would want to "check the stars" of an accident-involved astrologer. The highest court was deliberating a case involving accident compensation.

According to tweets shared by numerous news organisations, the court stated, “We are surprised that an astrologer has had an accident…We will check his stars.”

The astrologer's name and the particulars of the case are still unknown.

The Supreme Court's comment made some Twitter users laugh out loud, but it offended others

“Supreme Lords can mock anyone on the basis of their profession but themselves. They should be barred from commenting which will not be a part of judgement. Time to rein in judiciary,” a twitter user wrote.

“What! Are they human, will they make a snarky remark like that to a doctor who becomes sick, an engineer who has an accident involving engineering, or a judge who decides to seek justice in a case?" a user on the microblogging website said.

The Supreme Court had rendered judgement in 3 cases, earlier in the day—the 2012 Chhawala rape case, the Jharkhand mining licence case, and sustaining the 10% quota for the economically vulnerable sections (EWS).

Supreme Court's Judgements in three cases mentioned above

In the 2012 Chhawal rape case, three defendants were found not guilty despite receiving the death punishment from a Delhi court for raping and killing a 19-year-old woman in Chhawala, the national capital's neighbourhood.

The Supreme Court granted the appeals of the Jharkhand government and Chief Minister Hemant Soren against a High Court decision approving the maintainability of a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) for an investigation into the case.
In a historic decision, the Supreme Court upheld the constitutionality of the 103rd Amendment, which grants members of the EWS a 10% reservation in admissions and employment with the government.
