 Sikkim: 16 soldiers killed after a truck slid down a slope. Details

Sikkim: On Friday, December 23, 16 soldiers were killed in North Sikkim when an army truck slid off a cliff in Zema. The army truck was a part of a convoy of three vehicles that had departed Chatten in the morning and was headed toward Thangu. The car made a fast curve while travelling to Zema and skidded down a steep hill.

Indian Army issues statement

"A rescue mission was immediately launched, and four injured soldiers have been air evacuated. Unfortunately, three Junior Commissioned Officers and 13 soldiers succumbed to the injuries sustained in the accident. Indian Army stands firm with the bereaved families, at this hour of loss," according to a statement the Army issued.
