Pregnant Woman Bleeds Outside Locked Heath Centre In Assam, 9 Suspended

As many as nine employees, including a doctor, of a government-run primary health centre (PHC) in Assam’s Dima Hasao district have been suspended for “negligence” after a video of a woman bleeding due to labour pain went viral on social media.

The Khepre primary health centre falls under Maibang sub-division in Dima Hasao district, about 85 km from Haflong town.

The middle-aged woman was reported to be from Khepre village in the Dima Hasao district.

As per the information, the lady was taken to the aforesaid health centre but was shocked as its doors were locked thus highlighting the PHC's negligence.

The 9-second video clip shows the woman, who visited the health centre with her husband, bleeding profusely after developing pregnancy complications. To her horror, the gates of the health centre were locked. She lay there writhing in pain and blood, showed the video.

Locals have alleged that the health workers and the doctors do not carry out their duties properly and usually remain unavailable during emergency situations.

In the order issued on Sunday, Dr Kalpana Kemprai, Joint Director of Health Services, Dima Hasao district said that it was observed that the Khepre PHC was not running regularly and the employees were not performing their duties and responsibilities, hence they have been placed under suspension till the departmental enquiry is completed.
