Prajwal Revanna’s Brother Suraj Revanna Arrested Amid Sexual Assault and Blackmail Controversy

Suraj Revanna: In response to a sexual assault complaint made by a party worker, the Karnataka Police on Sunday detained Janata Dal (Secular) MLC Suraj Revanna, the brother of Prajwal Revanna, the person accused of sexual assault. The JD(S) MLC was taken into custody in relation to a blackmail complaint he and a friend, Shivakumar, filed against the complainant, while he was present at the Cyber Economic and Narcotics Crime (CEN) police station in Hassan.

Complaint Filed Against Suraj Revanna

The police action followed a complaint made on Saturday at the Holenarasipura police station in the Hassan district by a JD(S) employee, who claimed that on June 16 at his farmhouse, Suraj had sexually attacked him. Suraj allegedly sexually assaulted the man, after which he promised to assist him in becoming more influential in the district. Suraj responded to his text message about the event, saying, "Don't worry, everything will be fine," according to the complaint he sent Suraj.

According to the complaint, Suraj bit the complainant's lips and cheeks after inviting him to his property. On the basis of the complaint, late on Saturday night, the Holenarasipura police filed a case under IPC sections 377 (unnatural sex) and 506 (criminal intimidation) against the JD(S) MLC. After the complainant refused to submit to some medical tests in Hassan, he was sent to Bengaluru on Saturday night. His potency test was due to take place at Bowring Hospital on Sunday, with a senior physician present.

Counter Allegations of Blackmail

Notably, two persons accused of blackmailing Suraj Revanna and his friend Shivakumar over a "false sexual assault allegation" also filed a case against them. Shivakumar had claimed that at first a man had become his buddy and asked for his assistance in finding employment, claiming to be in dire need of money. He consented to be introduced to Suraj by Shivakumar during the Lok Sabha elections.

After conducting a preliminary investigation against him, the JD(S) MLC was brought into jail on Saturday when he visited the Cyber Economic and Narcotics Crime (CEN) police station in Hassan in relation to the blackmail case. According to sources, Hassan SP Sujeetha Mohammed gave senior officials instructions to go to the police station. It took four hours for Suraj Revanna to be taken into custody, making sure he would not flee.

Former JD(S) MP Prajwal Revanna Confined to Judicial Detention

This happened only a few days after a Bengaluru special court confined former JD(S) MP Prajwal Revanna to judicial detention. Prajwal, the Hassan-based NDA candidate for Lok Sabha, left the nation on April 27 following the release of various recordings purportedly capturing him abusing several women sexually. When he arrived back in Germany on May 31, he was taken into custody by SIT officers. Notably, HD Revanna, Prajwal's father, was detained in connection with two cases: sexual assault and kidnapping; Bhavani Revanna, his mother, was arrested in a kidnapping case related to a sexual harassment case.
