The Indian government is attempting to extradite Nirav Modi from the UK after he was charged with stealing PNB of Rs 7,000 crore, money laundering, and witness intimidation. If his attempt to have his appeal examined at the highest court is failed, Nirav Modi may petition to the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) to try and block his extradition on the grounds that he won't receive a fair trial, according to news agency PTI. Judge Sam Goozee of the Westminster Magistrates' Court rendered a ruling in April 2021 that prompted Priti Patel, the UK Home Secretary at the time, to order Nirav's extradition. The CBI is investigating a big fraud against PNB that includes obtaining letters of undertaking (LoUs) or loan agreements fraudulently, while the Enforcement Directorate (ED) is looking into the laundering of the proceeds of that crime.
