NIA registers 6 FIRs over Ram Navami violence in Bengal

The violence that occurred during Ram Navami in West Bengal has been the subject of six additional FIRs filed by the National Investigating Agency (NIA) under the Explosive Substance Act.

Several locations in Bengal's Howrah and Hooghly reported incidents of violence and burning on March 30 during the Ram Navami parade.

NIA filed a petition with the special court asking for an order to require the West Bengal Police to turn over all case files and all the arrested accused. Prior to this, the Calcutta High Court issued a directive directing the NIA to assume control of the investigation into the Ram Navami violence case.

According to an NIA source, the central investigation agency has filed six additional police reports (FIRs) in the matter of violence in accordance with the Calcutta High Court's directive.

In West Bengal's three districts of Howrah, Hooghly, and North Dinajpur, there have been reports of violence both during and during the Ram Navami rally. Two FIRs each were filed at the Dalkhola and Shibpur police stations in the North Dinajpur district, the Howrah district's Shibpur police station, and the Hooghly district's Rishra and Srirampur police station areas, where the final two FIRs were filed.

NIA source told India Today, "Sections 3, 4 and 5 of the Explosive Substance Act have been added to all the 6 FIRs by the NIA which were not added by the police in the previous FIRs registered by the respective police stations.”
