NATION Mumbai Rainfall: Landslides in Mumbai's Chembur region kills 11 people Jyoti B Jul 18, 2021 03:19 GMT As per authorities, landslides in Mumbai's Chembur region killed 11 people and injured two others following torrential rains that pounded the city and its suburbs on Saturday night and Sunday morning. "About 4-5 houses affected. 10 dead bodies have been retrieved by Local BMC/ Fire brigade personnel before NDRF reached and 01 dead body of female has been retrieved by NDRF team," the National Disaster Response Force said in a statement. "Further 6 to 8 persons are feared to be trapped. NDRF team under command Inspector Rahul is at the incident site and search and rescue operation is going on," NDRF added. The accident was reported at roughly 6.30 a.m., according to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's (BMC's) disaster management cell, when the retaining wall of a house fell owing to a tree fall. The wall of a house collapsed on the intervening night of July 17 and July 18 at around 1 am. The wall collapsed due to a landslide, said National Disaster Response Force (NDRF). Rescue operation is underway. The injured have been taken to the hospital.
