An ode to Imam Hussain's martyrdom

Muharram is observed to commemorate the death of Prophet Muhammed’s grandson Imam Hussain, who was martyred during the battle of Karbala on the tenth day of Ashura. Hussain’s death is perceived as a sacrifice made to prevent the corruption of Islam and protect its holy ideology.

The second holiest month after Ramadan, Muharram is one of the four months of the year when warfare is forbidden. The occasion holds special significance for both Sunni and Shia as they mourn the suffering and martyrdom of Imam Hussain.
