At least 11 fire engines had reached the site to contain the blaze. The fire started in an open area where garbage was lying. The fire is being extinguished but the cooling process will take time, an official said. Reports said more than 100 slums were gutted. After the fire, chaos spread in the area. People were hurriedly engaged in taking out belongings from the slums. As per the information received, no injuries have been reported yet. "We received information about a fire in the slums of Jahangirpuri area. 11-12 fire engines reached the spot. We found that the fire had started in an open area where garbage was lying. The fire is being extinguished, but the cooling process will take time": said Rajeev Kumar Sinha, Assistant Divisional Officer, Delhi Fire Service. Fire in Maulana Azad Medical College In a similar incident, a fire broke out at a hostel room in the Maulana Azad Medical College in the early hours of Sunday, a fire department official said. According to Atul Garg, the Director of Delhi Fire Service (DFS), the call regarding the blaze was received around 6:09 a.m. following which fire tenders were rushed to the spot. “The fire was in the air-conditioner, furniture and clothes in room No. 89 on the first floor of the old boys hostel of the medical college,” said Garg. “A total of seven fire tenders were sent and no casualty has been reported,” he added.
