NATION India’s population surpasses China; cites World Population Review Nikhilesh Kunal Jan 18, 2023 09:21 GMT India's population has overtaken China's, according to the independent group World Population Review, which focuses on census and demography. India's population was estimated by Word Population Review to be 1.417 billion as of the end of 2022, which is 5 million more than the 1.412 billion reported by China. China recently reported its first population decrease since the 1960s. World Population Review estimates India to be World’s populous country The UN, however, anticipates India to achieve this milestone later this year.India's population is estimated at 1.428 billion people by the research platform Micro Trends. India's population growth has slowed down, but according to World Population Review, the country will continue to grow until at least 2050. According to data made public by China's National Statistics Bureau, the country's population decreased by 850,000 in 2022. China vigorously enforced its population control laws and penalised those who broke them. Beijing, meanwhile, is currently trying to increase its population and is providing tax breaks, longer maternity leaves, and housing subsidies to do so. The Central and Provincial governments in China had been recommended by the country's National Health Commission to expand funding for childcare and reproductive health. China is also thinking about new policies to support flexible work schedules and the option for parents to work from home.
